South Indian Food in CDMX!
Updated November 2023
Neighbourhood Kitchen (now called Suvai - see post - and located in Polanco) is a first in Mexico: a South Indian food home delivery service. The extraordinary dishes offered are culled from the continent's enormous lexicon of street and popular foods most from the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala—many are offered in our city for the first time. The cooking is true to regional Indian traditions; . Most dishes are vegetarian (or vegan) and all are affordable. A "tiffin" (complete meal) menu changes daily; ask for a menu.
Standouts we sampled recently are the masala dosa, fermented lentil crêpes filled with spiced potatoes, ubiquitous throughout Southern India.
Pani puri, a common fast food found all over the continent, are deep fried hollow dough balls filled with savory, aromatic liquid ("pani" means water in hindi).
And pav bhaji are baked buns served with spicy tomato sauce - they are to a stroll down Chowpatty Beach in Bombay what a hot dog on the boardwalk is to Coney Island.
